My novella Starfade is a spacepunk story about a hacker for hire

Starfade book cover

As part of my Realm Blender series, I’m releasing a novella called Starfade, which is a standalone story that bridges the gap between Descendant of the Elders and book 2 (hopefully coming next year.) If you haven’t already, check out my post about Descendant of the Elders.

What is Starfade?

Starfade is about a hacker named, Chiaki Nakayama, who goes by the code name, Nova. After the death of her brother, Kura, Chiaki took over as the leader of a hacker group that resides on the small planet of Flade. Kura’s murder never sat right with Chiaki, and she’s made it her mission to track down his murderer and get revenge.

When a Galactic Alliance Commander shows up on Flade, Chiaki is forced to carry out a mission for him to prevent her people being thrown in prison. But although she’s accepting the mission against her own will, Chiaki soon finds the answers she’s been looking for.

Starfade is a spacepunk / space opera that bridges the gap between Realm Blender book 1 and 2, but it can also be enjoyed as a standalone read.

I’ve always had a thing for cyberpunk novels with hackers and I felt like there weren’t enough of them out there. That’s where my inspirations for this story came from. I consider Starfade to be a spacepunk story, which is a subsection of scifi and cyberpunk.

Descendant of the Elders is a structured novel that I put a ton of work into and it’s extremely personal with the themes of sickle cell being attached; but with Starfade, I found myself having much more fun while writing it, because it embodies everything I love about sci-fi and cyberpunk.

While Descendant of the Elders is a full length novel, Starfade is novella size at 170 pages, making it a quick—and hopefully enjoyable—read. Lookout for it on March 26th.
