I have officially launched a new web novel/serial named Mere Immortal. For those unfamiliar with the serial format, it means that new chapters of the story are published weekly. That means people can read along with the story simultaneously, and receive the same excitement and suspense that you would get from a TV series. But what is Mere Immortal all about? I hear you ask.
What is Mere Immortal?
Mere Immortal is a thrilling story of immortality, espionage, and psychological warfare. When a meteor grants six people eternal life, the world is thrown into chaos. World leaders and intelligence agencies race to control the immortals, while an anti-immortal activist sets out to destroy them all. In a world where life and death hang in the balance, who will emerge victorious?
For years I have been inspired by thought-provoking stories like Death Note, Metal Gear Solid, and Black Lagoon. What these stories in-particular have in common is how they approach the subject of morality. Their characters are morally grey, to the point that fans of them can question which characters are really right or wrong. That was something I wanted to explore in writing, and this became the basis of Mere Immortal.
In this world, a group of people have been granted a level of immortality that prevents them from dying of diseases and old age. They can still die a violent death, but their unique abilities prevent anyone from wanting to harm them. But this level of power has greater implications for the world. Foreign governments see these immortal beings as political assets that the U.S. can use in warfare. And what happens when these immortals, who have been popularized in society, fall to corruption?
After a series of corrupt acts by the immortals, an organization called Solace forms to expose and bring them to justice. Throughout this story, you’ll see the two sides engaged in psychological warfare.
In terms of genre, I feel that Mere Immortal fits into the following categories: Triller, Action-Adventure, Technothriller & Espionage.
Why I Used the Pseudonym Gary Swift
Because this work is very different from anything I’ve done before, I felt it was a good idea to launch it under a new brand name. If Mere Immortal gains enough interest then I have future plans for the Gary Swift line of storytelling. There are many stories that I have to tell.
